Born and raised in Edmonton, Orest fell in love with classical music during his studies at the University of Alberta in music education. He then began his career teaching junior high band, and currently works as an educator.

His love of radio began when his dad got a new reel-to-reel tape recorder, which Orest used to record Top 40 hits from the family stereo console from Woodward’s. Orest eventually honed his radio skills at CJSR Radio, where he started the program Sounds Ukrainian and hosted it for 7 years.

Orest founded the Ukrainian Male Chorus in 1984, and is its current conductor. He has sung with the Richard Eaton Singers and Da Camera Singers. His passion is choral music, which he feels is one of man’s greatest accomplishments – celebrating the beauty of the human voice in harmony with other singers!
